Ventolin is used to treat wheezing and shortness of breath, cough, or other respiratory problems. It may be used alone or with other medicines. Ventolin should only be used if your doctor has prescribed it.
Dosage:The usual adult dose of Ventolin is 50 mcg to 100 mcg as directed by your doctor. However, it can be as high as 100 mcg or decreased to 50 mcg if your doctor has prescribed it. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose without consulting your doctor. If you are using the inhaler more frequently than prescribed by your doctor, your doctor may decrease your dose to a maximum dose of 50 mcg. If your dose is suddenly high, you may experience coughing or wheezing. Your doctor will monitor your symptoms closely while you are using the inhaler.
The dosage of Ventolin may be lowered by your doctor. You may start with a lower dose and gradually increase it to reach the maximum dosage.
Administration:For use by adults and children over 12 years of age, take Ventolin by mouth with or without food. Swallow the inhaler with a glass of water. Do not take more than the recommended dose within a 24-hour period. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Food Interaction:Cimetidine can cause ulceration of the stomach or intestine. However, this may be reversible if you stop taking the medication.
Cautions:Ventolin is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
